AMHERST, Neb. - The top ranked girls wrestler in Nebraska is staying in her home state to compete in college.
Reagen Gallaway signed her letter of intent to wrestle at Hastings College in a ceremony on Thursday at Amherst High School. She won a state title at 138 pounds last year, which was the first year girls wrestling was sanctioned in Nebraska.
Gallaway says her relationship with Head Coach Cara Romeike helped her pick the Broncos.
“It just felt like home when I was there," Gallaway said. "Cara and I have been together three or four years now. We have a bond like no other.”
Gallaway is 65-0 in Nebraska since the start of her junior year and has won every match by pin or tech fall except one. She earned a bronze medal with a Team USA AAU team in France over the summer.
Romeike was one of the coaches with Gallaway’s Team USA group.
“I get to sign Reagen Gallaway, who is someone that is a hard worker, who has a positive attitude, someone who has already been a part of our team for such a long time,” Romeike said.
Hastings College is 3-3 in duals this season and is ranked just outside of the top 20 in the NAIA.
