GRAND ISLAND, Neb. -- Matt Fisher will be taking over for the next 17 months at Grand Island Public Schools.

At Thursday’s meeting the Grand Island Public Schools Board of Education approved the contract with Fisher.

Officials said he will start Feb. 1, until then Dr. Robin Dexter will serve as Acting Superintendent to ensure a smooth transition.

Fisher is from Grand Island and he currently serves as the Director of Public Finance at First National Capital Markets. He served as Superintendent of Northwest Public Schools from 2012 to 2019.

Fisher’s appointment comes after a month long process that began in December after Dr. Tawana Grover's resignation.

Fisher will be working under a 17 month contract. The first 5-months of the contract, Fisher’s compensation will be a gross salary of $100,000, the last 12 months of the contract he will receive a gross salary of $275,000.

The GIPS Board will continue its nationwide search for a Permanent Superintendent.
