Weissert man sentenced more than eight years for receiving child porn

A 36-year-old Weissert man was sentenced to more than eight years in prison for receiving child porn.

WEISSERT, Neb. -- A 36-year-old Weissert man was sentenced to more than eight years in prison for receiving child porn. 

The Acting U.S. Attorney announced that 36-year-old Zachary Peterson, was sentenced on Wednesday in federal court in Omaha. 

The U.S. District Judge sentenced Peterson to 100 months in prison.

After completing his sentence, Peterson will start a 5-year term of supervised release; there is no parole in the federal system. 

Peterson will also have to pay $25,000 in fines. 

Court documents said on Feb. 6, 2020, Peterson received via his Yahoo email account four links to MEGA files. One of the links contained approximately 78 videos of child pornography. On the same day, Peterson used the Yahoo email account to send images of child pornography.

On Feb. 19, 2020, a law enforcement agent met with Peterson and obtained his cell phone. There were at least 25 images of child pornography on the phone.
