Huskers come up short with 4-2 loss against No. 9 Northwestern
LINCOLN, Neb. – Despite outshooting Northwestern, Nebraska dropped a 4-2 decision to No. 9 Northwestern at Hibner Stadium Thursday evening.
The Huskers outshot the Wildcats by a 14-12 margin and held a 6-3 advantage in corner kicks, but Northwestern managed to score in both halves and went on to complete the victory
The Big Red attacked early when Reagan Raabe scored the quickest goal this year for the Huskers, finding the back of the net at the 39 second mark. Northwestern quickly responded with a goal themselves at the eight-minute mark by Caterina Regazzoni.
The Wildcats increased to a 3-1 lead when Meg Boade scored off an assist from Lily Gilbertson at the 25th minute, and Aurea del Carmen found the back of the net during the 29th minute.
Nebraska pulled closer at the half as Abbey Schwarz recorded her second goal of the season with one second to spare in the first half, making the score 3-2. Lauryn Anglim shot the ball into the goal box off a corner kick, and Schwarz gathered and shot it into the back left corner of the net.
In the second half, Boade recorded her second goal, notching another score in the 70th minute, but Northwestern added another goal and held on to beat the Huskers, 4-2.
Nebraska junior goalkeeper Sami Hauk recorded three saves while playing the entire 90 minutes.
