Columbus Lakeview and Columbus Scotus split series in Holiday Tournament Championship
Two rivals in Columbus Lakeview and Columbus Scotus met in the 2021 Columbus Holiday Tournament Championship on Wednesday night, with the Lakeview girls winning the first game and the Scotus boys winning the second.

In the girls game, neither team was able to lead by any more than just six points, as the lead shifted back and forth between the Shamrocks and the Lady Vikes.
After heading into the fourth quarter all tied up, Columbus Scotus retook the lead by just two points. With only 19 seconds left on the clock and down by a bucket, Lakeview found a spark in the final seconds.
Josie Bentz got the ball beyond the three point line with just seconds remaining and knocked down the game winning three pointer with just 2.8 seconds left in the game to lead 35-34.
Columbus Scotus would have one final possession, finding Grace Mustard on the inbound pass and drawing a foul with no time left. However, Mustard missed both free throws to preserve the Lady Vikes 35-34 victory.
Haley Frenzen led the way for Columbus Lakeview, finishing the evening with 18 points. Katee Korte put up 8 points, while Josie Bentz had 6 points, including the game winning shot.
For Columbus Scotus, Hailey Steffensmeier also had 18 points while Grace Mustard was the second-leading scorer with 9. Kaelyn Dierman finished her night with 7 points for the Shamrocks.
With the nail-biting win, Columbus Lakeview improves to 6-3 on the season, while Columbus Scotus drops to 6-4.
In the boys game, it was very similar to the girls game early on. Great defense by both teams and heading into halftime, Lakeview led by just two points.
The third quarter was the turning point in the game, as Columbus Scotus began lighting it up from distance. The Shamrocks outscored the Vikings 20-4 in the third quarter thanks two four three pointers from four different athletes for Scotus.
Lakeview wasn't able to rally back in the fourth quarter and Scotus held on for the 52-39 win over its rival.
Jack Faust led all scorers with 14 points and also nabbed 8 rebounds in the Shamrock win. Seth VunCannon was right behind him with 10 points. Trenton Cielocha and Carter Filipi put up 9 and 8 points, respectively.
For the Vikings, Braxton Borer led the way with 9 points in the loss. Eli Osten was second in scoring with 8 points.
Coumbus Scotus improves to 3-6 with the win, while Columbus Lakeview drops to 2-7.
