GICC wins first C2 State Championship over Yutan
For the first time ever the Crusaders of Grand Island Central Catholic are the champions of Class C2.
LINCOLN - For the first time ever the Crusaders of Grand Island Central Catholic are the champions of Class C2.
GICC took care of Yutan on Saturday night, winning its second overall state championship with a 55-34 victory. GICC won the Class C1 State Championship in 2000 and finished as the runner-up in C2 last season.
It was a tight game after the first quarter but the Crusaders were able to build a lead in the second, going up 24-19 at the half. GICC continued to put the pressure on the Chieftains in the second half, outscoring Yutan 31-15 to close out the state championship victory.
Dei Jengmer lead the way with 12 points for GICC, while Yutan was paced by Brady Timm's 21 points. Yutan finishes as the C2 runner-up for the second time in the last three years.
