LINCOLN - Four quarters wasn't enough for Auburn and Omaha Concordia Friday morning, but the Bulldogs survived and advanced to their third straight C1 State Championship.
Both teams were evenly matched in the first quarter, but a second quarter run by the Bulldogs gave Auburn a 19-13 lead at the half. The Mustangs battled back in the third quarter thanks to an 8-2 run, and neither team was able to gain an advantage throughout the fourth quarter.
A last-second attempt by Daniel Frary was unsuccessful at the end of the fourth quarter, and a final heave at the end of the first overtime by Concordia was also off the mark. Ultimately the Bulldogs were able to pull away just enough in the second overtime to come away with a 39-37 victory.
The win gives Auburn the opportunity to win its third straight C1 State Championship on Saturday. Concordia will play in the C1 consolation game on Saturday morning.
