Pioneer Boys Celebrate Senior Night With A Win

The Pioneers end the season with a 10-11 record and will now advance to the postseason

NEBRASKA CITY-It was senior night at Nebraska City High School on Thursday night as the Pioneer boys basketball team hosted the Gross Catholic Cougars in the final game of the regular season.  In a tribute to their teammates, juniors Braden Thompson, Chase Brown and Nyuon Thuokok, who are normally starters, stepped aside so that Seniors Riley Wehling, Federico Maccarri and Preston Wieckhorst could start the final home game of their career.  
 
The Pioneers led 20-12 at halftime and extended their lead to 20 points in the second half before finishing off the Cougars 51-38 to send the seniors off with a win.  
 
The Pioneer scoring leaders were Clay Stovall and Nyuon Thuokok with 12 and also Braden Thompson had 11.  Also in the scoring column for the Pioneers were Chase Brown(8), Federico Macarri(3), MJ Nelson(2) Nick Brown(2) and Jack Fritch(1). 
 
Seniors honored before the game were Clay Stovall, Federico Macarri, Riley Wehling, Preston Wieckhorst, Landon Adams and Nick Brown.  In another story of the game, the final 2 points of the game were scored by Senior Nick Brown.  Those were the first points that Nick has scored in a varsity game of his career.  Nick has been involved with the basketball program since he was in middle school, when he was a student manager.  
 
The Pioneers end the season with a 10-11 record and will now advance to the postseason where they will take on Beatrice in the B1 sub-district played at Norris High School.  Tip off is Monday February 22nd at 6 PM, the game will be broadcast on B103.
