SIDNEY, NE - The City of Sidney and Sidney Police Department want to warn residents of a scam that has been reported.

According to police chief Joe Aikens, a scammer has been making calls and posing as an employee of the City of Sidney.

Aikens says they claim that the city will shut off a person's electricity due to unpaid bills and then ask for credit card information.

The City of Sidney will not ask for any financial information over the phone. They will also not tell you they're shutting off your electricity over the phone.

If anyone receives a call like this, they are asked to report it to the Sidney Police Department.
