LINCOLN - Hay Springs-area rancher and Chadron State Foundation Chairman Marjean Terrell is the newest member of the Nebraska State College System Board of Trustees.
Governor Pete Ricketts appointed Terrell to complete the term of Panhandle native and Chadron State graduate Michelle Suarez, a retired grade school principal in Lincoln who stepped down in December. Her appoint is subject to confirmation by the legislature.
Terrell has served on various boards, including 8 years for the Foundation, 6 years with the Western Nebraska Community College Board of Governors, and 12 years on the Northwest Rural Public Power District board. She worked many years as a medical technologist and was an adjunct faculty member at Chadron State for several years.
Trustees Chairman and rural Chadron resident Gary Bieganski says Terrell's agricultural background and past experience as an instructor and medical training will be insightful and valued by the Board."
Terrell calls it "an honor to be appointed" a trustee and thanks Ricketts for picking her. She says she looks forward to serving alongside the other Board members "to build upon the great work that the State Colleges do to positively impact students and Nebraska."
The trustees hold public meetings 5-to-8 times a year, and are holding a special meeting by teleconference this morning at 8:30 with Chadron State's Miller Hall Room 109 among the sites.
The only action items deal with Chadron State, headlined by a resolution authorizing the sale of bonds for the upcoming Math Science expansion and renovation and to refund building bonds issued in 2014.
The trustees are also expected to approve the reallocation of contingency maintenance funds and the use of capital improvement fee funds.
