Man started fire in Grand Island basement to keep warm

Grand Island police say a homeless man was possibly trying to keep warm on Thursday morning but ended up with a small fire in the basement of an apartment.

GRAND ISLAND - Grand Island police say a homeless man was possibly trying to keep warm on Thursday morning but ended up with a small fire in the basement of an apartment.

Police arrest Mohamedsalah Ali, after he apparently started a fire at an apartment on west fourth street.

Police say they could see smoke coming from the window but no flames. Grand Island fire was not brought in. But Ali was arrested on other warrants.
