Fresh off a state tournament appearance last season, the Syracuse volleyball team has begun the 2019 campaign with an unbeaten record, despite the absence of Lauren Meyer.
SYRACUSE - Fresh off a state tournament appearance last season, the Syracuse volleyball team has begun the 2019 campaign with an unbeaten record, despite the absence of Lauren Meyer.
Meyer, who was third on the team in kills a season ago (272), has been out of the lineup since hip surgery in May. She's expected to rejoin the team in the next couple weeks.
The No. 5 Rockets improved to 4-0 with with a victory over Fort Calhoun on Thursday and a sweep of a home triangular on Saturday.
Jessie Moss led the team with 25 kills in the win over the Pioneers, 25-22, 22-25, 17-25, 25-16, 15-13. Hallie Wilhelm dished out 35 assists.
Syracuse defeated Ashland-Greenwood, 25-11, 21-25, 25-17, 19-25, 17-15, and Douglas County West, 25-20, 25-22, 19-25, 18-25, 15-13, in their home triangular on Saturday. Moss finished with 50 combined kills between the two matches. Lindsey Moss added 27 and Aubrey Kasbohm had 12.
The Rockets will be at the Wilber-Clatonia Triangular on Tuesday against the Wolverines and Johnson County Central. Matches begin at 5:30 p.m.
