Flood waters keep Highway 75/34 north of Plattsmouth closed Saturday

PLATTSMOUTH - One of southeast Nebraska's main arteries of travel remains closed Saturday afternoon and there is no sign of it opening anytime soon due to rising flood waters from the Platte River.
Highway 34/75 north of Plattsmouth is barricaded by the Nebraska Department of Roads as water continues to surround and flow over the road. It's dangerously close to overflowing a bridge just north of Bay Road. Water also began seeping underneath the Bay Road Bridge.
The Platte River, which topped its levee Friday afternoon, covered homes, businesses and roads in more than eight feet of water - creating fast-moving water and rapids in some spots.
One road official, who helped keep the road closed overnight, says the water keeps rising and there is no official word on when the highway will reopen.
Highway 2 and Interstate 29 in southwest Iowa and northwest Missouri both remained closed because of high flood waters.

The City of Peru is asking that no one use the water for anything at this time. The water treatment plant is experiencing flooding. They will let everyone know when it is safe to use the water again.
