LINCOLN — Isabel Wray scored on an inbounds play with five seconds left in overtime and Fort Calhoun took down Lincoln Christian in the Class C-1 state quarterfinals.

The victory for the #7 Pioneers represented a massive upset over the #2 Crusaders, who had won the last two C-1 state championships. Fort Calhoun hadn’t won a state tournament game since 2005.

After Wray’s basket, Lincoln Christian’s Sam Dearking snuck behind the defense, caught the inbounds pass at midcourt and drove to the hoop. Her last-second shot missed and the Pioneers held on for the win.

The game included 43 total fouls. Fort Calhoun had three players foul out and Lincoln Christian had four players finish with four fouls apiece.

The Pioneers will face the winner of the Malcolm vs. Holdrege game in the semifinals. The game is scheduled for 10:45 a.m. Friday at Pinnacle Bank Arena and will be televised on News Channel Nebraska.
