Buffalo County Register of Deeds Kellie John passes away after battle with cancer

KEARNEY, NEB. — The Buffalo County Board of Commissioners announcing Monday that Buffalo County Register of Deeds Kellie S. John passed away on February 21, 2026. 

The commission said John passed away in her home following a battle with cancer.

John was a long-time public servant who was in her seventh term, having taken office in 1999.

She had been an employee of Buffalo County for over 52 years in various roles.

The business of the Register of Deeds will continue through her deputy Jen Schleusener, pursuant to Nebraska Statute.
