Gov. Jim Pillen Appointed to Council of Governors

LINCOLN, Neb. — Governor Jim Pillen is among 10 governors appointed to serve on the Council of Governors, a bipartisan group that works to strengthen state-federal partnerships on national security, disaster response and military coordination.

Pillen was named to the council by President Donald Trump, and members gathered Thursday in Washington, D.C.

"It’s an honor to serve on the Council of Governors and I am grateful to be appointed by President Trump,” said Gov. Pillen. “Homeland security, disaster response, and supporting our men and women in uniform are our most important duties as leaders, and the Trump Administration has shown unwavering commitment on all these fronts. I am honored to serve in this role.”

The president selects 10 governors for two-year terms, with no more than five from the same political party. The Council of Governors serves as a forum for state leaders to advise federal defense and homeland officials on issues such as National Guard operations and civil support.

Federal participants on the council include senior officials from the defense and homeland security departments and the National Guard Bureau.
