Fire burns 2-3 acres on north edge of Hastings

Hastings Fire and Rescue responded to a grass fire at 4:06 p.m., on Tuesday, Feb. 17.

HASTINGS, Neb. - Hastings Fire and Rescue responded to a grass fire at 4:06 p.m., on Tuesday, Feb. 17, 2026, east of U.S. Highway 281, between East Lochland Road and 42nd Street.

The fire covered two to three acres, quickly spreading to the north-northeast.

The fire was under control in about 40 minutes. Firefighters were on scene about 1 hour and 12 minutes.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.

No injuries were reported.

There was some charring to several utility poles. City of Hastings Electric Distribution crews evaluated the crews and are not recommending the poles be replaced.

The Nebraska State Patrol also responded to the incident.
