FALLS CITY-  Falls City firefighters responded to a fire at Fulton Street shop Wednesday afternoon.

Firefighters were dispatched on a report of heavy black smoke seen from as far as the Kansas state line.

A fire department report says the fire in building owned by Easm Hollens appears to have started when sparks from a grinder that was used to cut some metal ignited combustible materials.

A 2011 Ford-250 pickup was in the shop building. Preliminary damage estimates are in excess of $100,000 including the truck, contents and building.

Falls City fire responded with two engines and the rural department provided booster tanks. A total of 23 firefighters responded.

The fire department says a person associated with the property was taken to Community Memorial Hospital for possible smoke inhalation.
