Update: Two Kearney men killed in plane crash Northeast of Airport

KEARNEY, Neb. - More information is coming in about the fatal plane crash that happened in Central Nebraska last month, but the exact cause of the crash is still unclear.

The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) has released a preliminary report on the crash that happened about five miles north of Kearney in late august.

Federal officials say the plane left Glenwood, Minnesota en route to the Onion Crest Airpark which is about 8 miles Northwest of Kearney.

The NTSB report says the plane was diverted to Kearney because of fog, but air traffic controllers in Minneapolis said they lost contact with the plane shortly afterward.

The plane crashed in a cornfield and killed 77-year-old Mark Meyer and 72-year old Kent Magnuson.

While visibility was low, the report stops short of saying what actually caused the plane to go down.
