HASTINGS, Neb.-- The Hastings College Alumni Association will be awarding their pick for the Outstanding Alumni Coach award during Homecoming weekend.

The award, in conjunction with the Athletic Hall of Fame, will be awarded to Andrew Kuta, who graduated from Hastings in 2017.

Kuta, an Edgar native, returned to his alma mater, Sandy Creek High School, to teach math and serve as an assistant coach for basketball and football.

In 2023, he was promoted to head football coach. In his first year as head coach, the Cougars transitioned from 11-man to 8-man football. In that same season, he led the Cougars deep into the playoffs before falling short in the state semifinals.

He then led them to an undefeated season the following year and were state champions in D-1.

Kuta will be presented the award during Homecoming weekend at Hastings College on September 27.
