HASTINGS, Neb. – For the second time in as many days, the start date for a project fixing traffic lights at a Hastings intersection has changed.

In a Wednesday news release, the city of Hastings said the project at the intersection of Highway 6 and Showboat Boulevard is being moved back to its original timeframe during the week of Aug. 18.

City officials said on Tuesday that the project would start Wednesday and finish this Friday, but according to the news release:

"After consulting with the Southern Public Power District – which has a 34.5 kilovolt transmission line close to the traffic signal pole at the northeast corner of the intersection of U.S. Highway 6 and Showboat Boulevard – the Nebraska Department of Transportation determined the line cannot just be taken out-of-service and a load study is needed, so the traffic signal replacement project won’t be completed until the week of Aug. 18." said the news release.

During the construction, the Highway 6 westbound to northbound right turn lane will be closed to traffic.

The intersection has been functioning as a four-way stop ever since June 15, when a vehicle accident damaged the northeast corner traffic light pole.
