HAZARD, Neb.-- A first-time bar owner is hitting the gas with a restaurant themed after an 80s hit TV series.

Tamara Kometscher opened the doors of Dukes Bar and Grill in Hazard on June 20.

The village of Hazard is located just 30 minutes north of Kearney where Kometscher runs the restaurant that serves a simple, homemade menu with her parents and fiancé.

The "Dukes of Hazzard" theme was an opportunity she just couldn’t pass up.

The talk of opening a bar has been in Kometscher’s mind for a while. She bartended for over six years before opening Dukes.

"So it actually started off as a joke," said Kometscher. "But it's one of the best jobs I've ever had."

The decor is pure nostalgia- flags, orange walls and miniature General Lees everywhere. The quonset building turned bar is a blast from the past.

"We figured it was the greatest opportunity ever to call it 'The Dukes' and kind of just go off of the 'Dukes of Hazzard' and go from there," said Kometscher.

While the village of Hazard is fluctuating around 100 people, seats are filled for the lunch rush of farmers. Kometscher enjoys the community camaraderie Dukes brings for lunch or dinner.

"[I enjoy] just building a place for the community of Hazard to come into and have a place to come sit down, eat and have a cold drink," said Kometscher.

At Dukes, Kometscher is on the chase to prove there are no seat belts required for small town fun.
