Shooting in Downtown Kearney leads to police investigation

Kearney Police are looking into a shooting that happened early Sunday morning during a party in downtown Kearney.

KEARNEY, Neb. - Kearney Police are looking into a shooting that happened early Sunday morning during a party taking place in downtown.

Officers responded to the area of 1800 Avenue A around 3:22 a.m. and found a 30-year-old man with gunshot wounds to both legs, according to Police.

He was taken to CHI Good Samaritan Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries and has already been released.

According to investigators, the shooting happened during a confrontation at a party at 1815 Avenue A where several people reportedly fired shots during the incident.

Police say this doesn’t appear to be a random act and likely stemmed from an altercation at the party.

The investigation is still ongoing, with KPD working closely with the Buffalo County Attorney’s Office.
