KEARNEY, Neb. - A popular recreation spot in Kearney is getting a face-lift thanks in part to a sizable donation made from a national tennis organization.

The tennis courts at Harmon Park are set to be resurfaced this summer at a price of around $50,000, and the U.S. Tennis Association Missouri Valley Section is helping foot the bill.

The organization presented a check of nearly $32,000 to Kearney's city council this week, leaving the city to cover the remaining balance.

The group's Executive Director said that Kearney’s tennis community is "energetic and growing," with local tennis officials saying the courts have seen an uptick of usage in recent years.

The resurfacing is scheduled to take place between July 21 and August 10, weather permitting.
