Over 20 grocery stores across Nebraska will be getting new ownership with changes expected by the end of 2025.
SpartanNash, the operator of Family Fare, Family Fresh Market and Supermercado Nuestra has been acquired by C&S Wholesale Grocers.
The merger will enable the combined company to more efficiently serve customers and communities across the United States while making groceries more affordable for millions of Americans, according to the two companies.
"For our customers, this transaction creates the necessary scale, efficiency and purchasing power needed to enable independent retailers to compete more effectively with larger big box chains," said SpartanNash President and CEO Tony Sarsam. "A thriving hometown grocery store supports local farmers, bolsters the local economy, and enhances the overall health and well-being of the community."
The companies expect the merger to translate to better pricing for customers for the 21 stores across the state.
The transaction between the companies is expected to close in late 2025, but the businesses will be operating as usual until all legalities are finalized.
