KEARNEY, Neb. - Central Nebraska fire crews responded to a ditch fire Monday evening near the Platte river.

The Kearney volunteer fire department got a call of a ditch fire around 6:20 p.m. just south of the I-80 and Hwy 44 interchange.

The fire took place on the north end of the Platte river, and the area saw heavy smoke coming from the blaze.

Winds were gusting at over twenty miles-per-hour in Kearney when the fire was underway.

Crews had the scene under control in under 30 minutes, and stayed to clean up the scene.

The cause of the blaze in still under investigation.
