HOLDREGE, Neb. - Community members came together Friday in a south-central Nebraska town to discuss a potential new housing facility.

Holdrege is being considered as a site of a Crossroads Mission Avenue transitional living facility, and recently held town hall discussions to further ask questions and get more information

"We're just see the need for long-term transitional living, people who need support, people who need a stable place to live," said Executive Director Daniel Buller. "Crossroads' involvement is a response of community members saying 'hey we see the need, could you partner with us?'"

Crossroads says the facility is different from a homeless shelter, and potential residents will go through an evaluation period in order to be considered, on top of meeting specific criteria for the program.

The community was supportive overall, with their main concern being a potential increase in transient people in the community.

Buller said the Holdrege housing isn't intended for these individuals, and would point them to the Tri-Cities facilities with more appropriate resources.

The proposed redevelopment is for the Plains Motel on Highway 6, and will have around 20 units available.
