HASTINGS, Neb. — Utility workers are continuing their efforts to restore power in Hastings and the surrounding areas.

A city news release says there are about 700 customers remaining without power. According to the release, linemen will stagger ending times, allowing crews to work around the clock. Crews will work as long as 16-hour days.

The release says outages Juniata are caused by four broken power poles along 12th St. near the town’s north electric feed. One of the poles included a full set of transformers. When that feed is operational, power will be restored to Juniata. Crews are also targeting four broken poles on the south Juniata feed near the DLD Road. Those poles are difficult to access because of the large amount of snow in the area.

The release says blowing snow and high winds delayed workers from starting repairs until late morning.

If residents need a warm place to stay, Crossroads Mission Avenue has opened its doors to the public.
