KEARNEY – Sam Schroeder will serve a second term as student body president at the University of Nebraska at Kearney, with Paige Oltmans joining the cabinet as vice president.

Running unopposed, they were officially elected Thursday and will be inaugurated April 15.

A Seward native, Schroeder is currently finishing his first year as student body president, serving alongside Vice President Zane Grizzle of Fairbury. He represents UNK as a student regent on the University of Nebraska Board of Regents and is the official student body representative to the administration and public. The president also has the power to approve or veto legislation passed by Student Senate.

Schroeder is a junior studying political science with a public law minor. He’s part of the UNK Honors Program, Kearney Law Opportunities Program, Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity and Catholic Newman Center.

Oltmans is a Davenport native studying political science and business administration. The UNK sophomore currently serves as a senator representing the College of Arts and Sciences and as chair of the Student Programming Board. She’s also involved in the Honors Program, Kearney Law Opportunities Program, Model United Nations, Pre-Law Society, Locke and Key Society and Gamma Phi Beta sorority.

  • Genesis Acosta of Lexington – Secretary of student organizations and affairs
  • Jacob Stegman of Grand Island – Secretary of the treasury

In addition to the presidential election, several students were selected to serve on UNK Student Senate. This organization is the legislature for the student body, with representatives elected from each of the three academic colleges at UNK and the graduate college. There are also freshman and deciding/pre-professional senators.

Student Senate has the power to pass legislation for the campus, approve new student organizations, appoint student representatives to UNK Faculty Senate and other administrative committees, and perform other duties concerning student issues.
