Hastings man arrested for pointing gun at girlfriend, injuring police officer

HASTINGS, Neb. – A Hastings man is behind bars for allegedly assaulting a woman and a police officer at the victim's home.
The Hastings Police Department says the incident started at 4:30 a.m. on Sat. March 1, when Nickolas Collicott, 23, called HPD claiming he had been hit by a car while on foot, and told police that his girlfriend was the driver.
The girlfriend then showed up to the police station shortly after, and told authorities that Collicott had assaulted her.
A further investigation determined that Collicott previously went to the victim's home in the 1400 block of E. South St. and called the female victim, claiming he was being shot at outside the home.
According to police, the victim showed up at the home, and Collicott pointed a handgun at the victim and made verbal threats towards her, but no shots were fired.
The victim tried to flee the scene in a vehicle, but investigators say that Collicott entered the vehicle and strangled her, not allowing her to leave.
Afterward, the victim retreated to the home, and Collicott followed her, strangling her again.
Police say the victim was finally able to escape the home when Collicott went back outside the home to look for the gun he dropped.
Officers arrived on scene and took Collicott into custody after a struggle. Authorities say he head-butted a Hastings Police Officer, causing minor injuries.
Authorities also determined Collicott was intoxicated, and he was booked into the Adams County Jail.
He faces three felony charges including terroristic threats, use of a firearm to commit a felony, assault by strangulation, obstructing a peace officer, and assault on an officer.
The victim was not hospitalized for her injuries, and is not facing any charges as of Monday afternoon.
