PLATTSMOUTH – Three Cass County men are charged with illegal harvesting of walnut trees.

Kody Gregg, 30, and Jonathan Speed, 25, both of Nehawka, and Joseph Hofler, 37, of Plattsmouth are charged with theft on Feb. 19.

A Cass County Sheriff’s Office affidavit says deputies were called to a field in rural Union, where a flatbed trailer was loaded with a walnut log.

The affidavit says Gregg and Hofler were found on the property despite "no trespassing" signs. Investigators suspect that Speed was in a truck that left the scene.

Deputies say eight walnut trees were found on the property and seven more in Gregg’s backyard in Nehawka. Each tree is valued up to $2,000.

A $35,000 bond was set for Gregg.
