Ernest Quintana owns Quintana boxing. He says it’s been business as usual despite the wintry conditions.
"People don’t want to stay home. Some people ain’t working today, so they feel like they need to come in and get a work out,” he said.
He and his family have been in Kearney for over 35 years, so the cold doesn't bother him.
Boxers Braedyn and Raynard shared the same sentiment, saying nothing would stop them from attending practice. In fact, Braedyn ran to the gym despite the fridge conditions.
Raynard treats bad weather as just another obstacle he has to pass over in his boxing pursuit. "We got a fight to get ready for, ” said Raynard, who is preparing for a boxing bout in Hasting on February 22.
Neighbor Jay Peterson didn’t mind the weather, either. It gives him a reason to spend time with his daughter’s dog considering that the snow wasn’t too bad.
"Well we definitely needed the snow," said Peterson. "This winter hasn’t been bad at all, so when it changes you just have to deal with it.”
