Richard enjoyed spending his time wearing his Mr. Fix-it hat, caring for his home on West 7th Street, and maintaining his lawn which earned him many compliments from passers-by who stopped to admire it, seek his advice for theirs, and then add themselves to the friends in the neighborhood who regularly stopped to chat with him as he enjoyed life from his chair in the garage.

Richard was preceded in death by his parents, Richard D. and Betty Sanders Gildersleeve and infant son, Scott.
