KEARNEY, Neb. — For the second time in the last couple of years, police say someone attempted to steal an ATM at a north Kearney bank.

Officers responded to the Heartland Bank on 56th Street for an alarm at 4:23 Tuesday morning. A news release says officers found the front of the ATM torn open. Investigators believe the suspects used a vehicle to pull the front panel off. Then they tried to remove the cash container but were unsuccessful. Police found an unoccupied stolen pickup nearby and determined the suspects used it in the attempted ATM heist.

Thieves went after the same ATM in October, 2022. At the time, police said suspects used a stolen truck to pull the front panel off and escaped with the cash container. A person found the container a mile away with some of the cash gone.

KPD encourages anyone with information or video related to this case to contact the Kearney Police Department (308) 237-2104, Buffalo County Crimestoppers (308) 237-3424, or through the See It Say It Send It App.
