KEARNEY, Neb. — Two administrators in Kearney Public Schools will soon be moving into new roles.

The district announced Wednesday that Buffalo Hills Elementary School principal Jenn True will become the new Director of PK-5 Education. Park Elementary School principal Chance Waggoner will move to Buffalo Hills to take True’s job. Buffalo Hills is absorbing Glenwood Elementary next school year.

True began her career in education in 2008 as a third-grade teacher and junior high volleyball coach at Grand Island Northwest. She joined KPS in 2011 and has taught at four different KPS schools: Sunrise Middle School, Northeast Elementary, Meadowlark Elementary, and Bryant Elementary. In 2019, True began her administrative career as the principal of Emerson Elementary and most recently served as the principal of Buffalo Hills Elementary.

“Mrs. True has consistently demonstrated a passion for education and a commitment to student success,” superintendent Jason Mundorf said in a statement. “Her extensive experience in both teaching and administration makes her the ideal leader for our PK-5 programs.”

Waggoner taught at Buffalo Hills Elementary for seven years before becoming Park Elementary’s principal in 2019. He was honored as the Region IV Outstanding New Principal in 2021 and as the Distinguished Principal of the Year by the Nebraska Association of Elementary School Principals in 2024.

“Chance Waggoner’s dedication to education and his ability to connect with students, staff, and families make him the ideal leader for Buffalo Hills during this exciting transition,” Mundorf said. “His proven leadership at Park Elementary and previous experience at Buffalo Hills have prepared him well for this opportunity to serve and unite the new Buffalo Hills school community."
