MINDEN, Neb. -- Mattie Kamery certainly made her mark at Minden High School.

College coaches noticed what she was capable of and the recruitment started early in her career.

"To finally be at this point is super exciting, because it has been what I've looked forward to since I was little," said Kamery.

One program in particular, Wayne State, honed in and made a concerted effort, getting a verbal commitment from Kamery more than one year ago, before she eventually signed with the Wildcats.

"Whatever happens, happens when I get there," said Kamery. "Obviously I have to work hard for what I want to do, so nothing is set for sure at all."

The 'Cats coaching staff recruited her as a player they hope to refine and mold into an even better talent.

"I'm excited to take my skills and improve them," said Kamery. "Coach (Kim) DePew, Coach (Katie) Morris, (Head) Coach (Scott) Kneifl are going to push me and they are going to make me so much of a better player."

The senior was part of an unprecedented run with the Whippets, part of a team winning back-to-back state championships and a third place finish in 2022.

In her final season, Kamery led Minden with 427 kills and a .362 hitting percentage, both ranking near the top for the state of Nebraska.

Now, the Wildcats hope she can help re-write the record books in Wayne.
