Kearney murder suspect now faces upgraded charges after death of husband

KEARNEY, Neb. – The Kearney woman accused of shooting her husband is now facing a murder charge after the victim died on Friday.
On Monday, the Buffalo County Attorney upgraded the charge against 56-year-old Karen Geisler from first-degree assault to second-degree murder.
The charges come after 62-year-old Jimmy Geisler, the shooting victim and Karen's husband, died in a Kearney hospital on Friday.
Karen Geisler was taken into custody on Sun. Oct. 20 at her Kearney home after she shot Jimmy Geisler with a .38 caliber revolver, according to authorities.
The maximum penalty for a second-degree murder charge in Nebraska is life in prison.
Further details of the shooting are unknown due to a sealed court affidavit.
Geisler is scheduled to appear in court for a preliminary hearing on Nov. 14. in Buffalo County.
