HASTINGS, Neb. — Firefighters were quick to extinguish a garage fire Thursday night in Hastings.

The call came in around 10:30 from the 700 block of S. Franklin Ave., which is just north of the county fairgrounds. The garage is immediately across the street from Lincoln Elementary School.

A news release says the fire was under control within 15 minutes of crews arriving. Firefighters were on scene for just short of two hours.

The release says the garage is a total loss. The homeowner was home at the time, but a passerby was the one who reported the fire. The owner had pet dogs in the garage at the time and was able to get them out safely.

Investigators determined the fire was accidental in nature.
