Alarm incident at Kearney High School under investigation
Police are investigating the cause of a fire alarm going off at a central Nebraska high school.
KEARNEY, Neb.- - Police are investigating the cause of a fire alarm going off at a central Nebraska high school.
On Thursday, just after noon, a Kearney High School fire alarm was activated, according to the Kearney Police Department. The building was immediately evacuated and several agencies responded to the scene.
After an investigation, it was confirmed there was no fire at the building. Once it was determined the building was safe, students were allowed to return to school.
"We are grateful for the swift response from the Kearney Police and Fire Departments," KPS Director of Student Services and Safety Jeffrey Schwartz said. "Our top priority is always the safety of our students and staff, and we are pleased that the situation was resolved without incident. We will continue to work closely with authorities to determine the cause of the alarm."
The reason for the alarm activation is under investigation.
