HASTINGS, Neb. – It took over six hours, but KHAS Radio Host Brandon J McDermott overcame all odds to complete an 11-mile city tour on a lawnmower Friday afternoon.

This historic day for the KHAS Radio Station in Hastings started with an ask to the Big G ACE Hardware store.

"KHAS had a great idea, it was their idea, and we kind of took it and ran with it," said Big G ACE Owner Bob Foote. "We're pretty excited that this is a fun way to market and advertise rather than just a 30-second commercial."

The objective for Brandon Friday morning was to visit 10 stops around the city of Hastings while sitting on the riding lawnmower in the bed of a trailer.

The route started at Big G ACE, and Brandon visited the Hastings Family YMCA, Hastings Federal Credit Union, Russ's Market, Paul's Cigar Bar, Small Town Famous, Back Alley Bakery, Jackson's Car Corner, Mary Lanning Healthcare, and the Hastings Museum before ending back at Big G ACE.

At the first stop at the YMCA, playing 'HORSE' took a while

"I think they need some help," joked YMCA Associate Executive Director Ty LeBar. "We need to start with some lessons is what we need to do.

Later on, Brandon was approached by a sheriff's deputy, who joked they had a warrant out for his arrest.

At each stop, each business gave away a prize of their own.

The grand prize winner of the contest was the person who was the closest guesser to the amount of time it would take Brandon to complete his tour around the city.

At the end of the journey, Brandon crossed the finish line after 6 hours and 22 minutes arriving just after 2:30 p.m.

"Thank you to Bob Foote, thank you to our sponsors, thank you to everyone who went the extra mile for me and for KHAS," said McDermott. "This about Hastings, we love you."
