Hastings family displaced after morning fire

Nobody is injured after a fire spread from one house to another on Monday morning.

HASTINGS, Neb. — Nobody is injured after a fire spread from one house to another on Monday morning.

It happened around 9:30 in the 1600 block of W. 6th St. in Hastings. A news release says the fire started by the improper disposal of smoking materials. Firefighters were able to limit damage to the second house to the exterior and some interior smoke damage. The first house suffered $94,000 in damage and two vehicles were totaled.

The family living at the initial house is displaced and is receiving aid from the American Red Cross.

Hastings Fire and Rescue led the response with assistance from Hastings Rural Fire, Juniata Fire and Glenvil Fire.
