Grand Island man accused of punching, choking girlfriend

A Grand Island man is behind bars after police say he punched and choked his girlfriend in an apartment containing drugs.

GRAND ISLAND, Neb. — A Grand Island man is behind bars after police say he punched and choked his girlfriend in an apartment containing drugs.

Officers responded to a disturbance call around 7:00 Thursday night. The victim told officers that James Akins punched her multiple times, strangled her, wielded two weapons against her and threatened to kill her. She suffered red marks, small lacerations and bumps.

Officers say they found drug paraphernalia, meth, and more than an ounce of marijuana in the home.

Akins faces seven criminal charges.
