Good Life District Economic Program special election less than a week away

By News Channel NebraskaGRAND ISLAND, Neb.- - As the first election of it’s kind in Grand Island is less than a week local leaders are still answering questions.
Ahead of the special election on Good Life District Economic Program Grand Island leaders are hoping residents get informed on the topic and vote.
City administrator Laura McAloon says many people still have some concerns.
“Why, why the timing? That’s a question we hear a lot. The timing was driven by when the state notify us that they would be changing the sales tax rate for the state and when that goes into effect," said McAloon. "So, the special election was the only election time frame that we could have before the state drops it’s state sales tax on October first.”
Good Life Districts were authorized by the Legislature in 2023 and Grand Island is only the third one to be authorized.
Ballots can be mailed in or dropped off at the Hall County Election Commissioner's office and must be received by 5:00 pm on August 13.
