GRAND ISLAND, Neb. - A farmers market in Grand Island will soon be the place to be every Saturday morning.

The market starts on Saturday and runs through October. It will be open from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the Bosselman Enterprises parking lot.

According to committee organizer Sandra Barrera, plans for a new farmers market in Grand Island began about a year ago.

“The idea is to have a market in Grand Island but to also support local farmers and their businesses,” Barrera said.

The market will offer a wide variety of products including vegetables, fresh flowers, bakery goods, hand-crafted items, eggs, meat, and more.

Platte River Gardens owner Lisa Avila O’Connor will be selling a wide variety of vegetables.

“Our community is going to be able to have more fresh produce that is produced locally," O'Connor said. "You get to know your farmers, you get to know other people in the community that are interested in healthy foods, healthy vegetables and fruits, and that are more flavorful in my opinion, than some of the produce that we find in stores.”

Apart from products, there will also be food carts and activities for families.

According to organizers, there’s still space for vendors. They must live in Grand Island or within a 200-mile radius.
