Overton boys golf wins second state title in three years

NORTH PLATTE, Neb. — The Overton boys golf team finished strong in the Class D state golf tournament to earn the program’s second title in the last three years.

The Eagles shot a two-day, 36-hole total of 655 to beat Hitchock County by 11 strokes and claim the championship. Overton’s top four golfers fired a 336 on Tuesday, which was just three strokes better than Hitchcock County. They came back on Wednesday to shoot a tournament-low 319 to claim the win at Lake Maloney Golf Club in North Platte.

Overton seniors Alex Banzhaf and Braden Fleischman were in the mix for the hotly contested Class D individual title. Banzhaf shot +9 over the two days to finish fourth and just three strokes back of the winner, Jake Dane of Sandy Creek. Fleischman shot +11 to tie for fifth.

The Eagles only other state title came in 2022 when they shot a 681 at Lake Maloney. They were runners up last year.
