Charges upgraded for Grand Island woman accused of fatal child abuse
GRAND ISLAND, Neb. – A Grand Island woman is now facing a 'Child Abuse Resulting in Death' charge after a two-month old baby suffered irreversible brain damage while in her care.
27-year-old Bianca Rivera Lima was charged with 'Child Abuse resulting in Serious Bodily Injury' last week on April 22, after Grand Island authorities responded to a call of a child not breathing.
Investigators said the child was suffering from a brain bleed and resulted from severe shaking or “slamming.”
The boy was airlifted to an Omaha hospital where he was placed on life support. The child was taken off life support, and died due to his injuries over the weekend.
Rivera Lima was determined to be the sole caregiver at the time. She was arrested and lodged in the Hall County Jail
Hall County upgraded Rivera Lima's charges after the child died to 'Child Abuse Resulting in Death.'
Rivera Lima appeared in Hall County Court Tuesday afternoon for arraignment.
Her bond was set 10% of $1,000,000.
This is a developing story.
