HASTINGS, Neb. – Some people may find getting healthcare outside of regular weekday business hours can be tough due to several factors. One provider in Central Nebraska is set to make those people's lives a little bit easier.

Mary Lanning is the largest healthcare provider and hospital in Hastings, and up until now they haven't had an acute care clinic.

When it opens next week, the clinic will act as an 'urgent care' that will deal with non-life threatening injuries and illnesses.

The new clinic will be housed in the existing Hastings Family Care clinic, but will stay open until 7 p.m. Monday through Thursday to help with people who may work a traditional 9-5 job.

Doctors say this is a big moment for them, as there are several reasons this will benefit them and their patients.

"We wanted to offer a way for patients to be seen quicker and more acutely, but then also having extended hours so that people may not have to miss work as often," said Mary Lanning Medical Director of Primary Care Dr. Zach Frey.

"They've got an option without having to go to the emergency room where it costs a lot more, and typically takes longer than being able to walk into a clinic."

The clinic will have separate providers staffing the acute care clinic from the regular clinic.

It will open on April 1, and is available by preferred reservations or walk-ins to the public.
