The city of Grand Island is cleaning its roads after yesterday’s snowstorm.

GRAND ISLAND, Neb. -- The city of Grand Island is cleaning its roads after yesterday’s snowstorm.

From the early hours of the morning the snow plows and shovels were the soundtrack of the city. 

According to the National Weather Service, new precipitation and snowfall records were set in Grand Island. The 0.35” old precipitation record dated in 1937, and the new record is 0.60”. The new snowfall record is now seven inches. 

Early in the morning, the city extended its snow emergency and snow emergency route parking ban until Wednesday midnight. 

Officials announced that crews will be clearing and hauling snow in the downtown area between 7:00 pm on Tuesday and 8:00 am on Wednesday. 

The city also canceled the Tuesday night city council meeting.

City offices and several other institutions like the YWCA, Multicultural Coalition, Heartland united Way and the Public Library closed.
