KEARNEY, Neb. — A Nebraska man is behind bars after police say he fled a traffic stop with drugs in his vehicle.

The Kearney Police Department says officers attempted a traffic stop just south of the UNK campus late Friday night, but the vehicle sped away. Officers soon found the vehicle abandoned about six blocks away. According to a news release, witnesses helped officers find 43-year-old Gilberto Alvarado Torres hiding under a porch near the abandoned car. Officers also found more than an ounce of meth, which they say was thrown from the fleeing vehicle.

Alvarado Torres was arrested and booked into the Buffalo County Jail. He faces tampering with evidence, avoiding arrest, obstruction, driving under suspension and felony drug charges.
