WOOD RIVER, Neb. — A Central Nebraska teenager is dead and several others are injured following a crash that authorities say involved alcohol.

It happened around 1:40 Thursday morning at the intersection of Schauppsville and Wildwood Roads, which is about three miles west of Alda. According to the Hall County Sheriff’s Office, an investigation shows that 19-year-old Quentin Scroggin of Grand Island was driving recklessly when he lost control of his SUV, causing it to roll.

Two of Scroggin’s five passengers were ejected. One of the people ejected, 18-year-old Brennan Villatoro of Grand Island, died at the scene. The remaining passengers and Scroggin were transported to a hospital for treatment.

The Sheriff’s Office says alcohol was a factor and criminal charges are pending. The investigation remains open.
